Open Doors
This evening finds me well. The doors stand open, and at last the house is full of life.
The first to arrive were the little spiders with their impossibly long legs. Left undisturbed, they spun their webs—a small gesture of permanence, reminding the house that it is never easy to untangle yourself from those who choose to live beside you.
Then came the cats. I've always loved the effortless freedom they carry. They wander through the room as if they belong everywhere, nosing into forgotten corners in search of traces of other lives—to feed, to play, and then to leave again. A doorway is simply another threshold, another experience waiting beyond it.
I've always envied them. We kept their loneliness outside for so long that I forgot what it meant to be free, forgot how breath rises naturally from within.I hadn't forgotten after all.
With the doors left open, a few tiny creatures found their way inside as well. Little cockroaches—the kind that make people recoil. They didn't frighten the house. The cats turned them into playmates, and suddenly every room was alive. The bookcase became a fortress for some, a launching point for others. Movement everywhere. At last, something warm reached my heart.
That's when the truth struck me. I was never made for indoors. Walls and houses have always frightened me. I was made for gardens, for soil, for trees and the sea. You shut me inside, locked the doors, and kept my life waiting on the other side. But the moment I opened them again, everything returned to welcome me home. Like a prodigal child returning to the land that nourished him, to the earth that raised him.
The last visitor was an old frog. Don't ask me how he found his way here. But he unlocked something in me. As long as the doors remain open, new visitors will keep arriving. As long as the doors remain open, I too will remain inside the life that exists outside.
The life that gave birth to me. So let the doors stay open. At last, a cool breath fills my body from within. A whole world stretches out before me, waiting to be embraced.
That is where I belong. With the wind that lashes the branches. With the old frog. With the cats. Within a freedom that brought my inner world back to life.
