So, this is what I wanted to tell you

It took the shape of my body. The sofa, I mean. The sofa took the shape of my body.

You know, I don’t sleep in the bed anymore. I’ve grown tired of it. That whole routine

where you have to leave the living room behind just to go to the bedroom. Yes, I’ve

grown so tired of it that the sofa is now my new bed.

I always felt a certain weight during that preparation, like a farewell to the day, an

admission of defeat. Time had beaten me once again, and I had to bow my head and

accept, ashamed, that I had to go to bed and hide.

Of course, I don’t like goodbyes, so I stay on the sofa. It suits me. I feel like I can still

hold my ground in this obscene battle against time. A chance to strike back with the

first light of the following day. To meetthe new dawn battle-ready, ready to gain the

advantage. My first victory now is my lack of love for the bed. No disappointment

when I have to get up. Separation anxiety, but that is not the point right now. Still,

sleep no longer suffocates me. It’s easy, you know, to wake up on the sofa, because

you know you shouldn’t be sleeping there in the first place. So, an easier awakening.

Coffee is another easy matter. Some mornings, there may still be a little left over

from the night before. Tastes awful, but by now it doesn’t matter anymore. After the

first sip, you don’t care. You’re already preparing your first cigarette, almost ready to

seize the day.

What day, though? You don’t even remember what day it is, because the sofa has

this wonderful kind of magic. It makes you forget how, what, and where you live. It

generously gives you the chance simply to live — or at least to live simply.

So the sofa took shape of my body. And so, I haven’t been defeated. I keep fighting.

Every day, a new battle for existence. I removed the bed from the equation and,

suddenly, everything is simpler, easier.

But that isn’t what I wanted to write.

What I really wanted to tell you is that I’m giving away the bed.

If you know someone who has stopped dreaming and can sleep easily, tell them to

come and take it.

Free of charge.

I don’t need it.

I dream while I’m awake.
